Micro By Michael Crichton and Richard Preston

Michael Crichton is one of my favorite writers because I love mystery, history, suspense, and science fiction. My kidparts aged nine to fourteen really love this last book Micro put together from unfinished notes found after his death in 2008. It was co-written by Richard Preston. I haven’t read anything by Preston, but I’ll be checking him out.

In Micro seven graduate students have a life and death adventure in the hills of Hawaii. How will they survive?

This book was written for adults, but I think it appeals more to children. My kidparts like things that gross them out so they can say “Pughhhhh, that’s disgusting.” The book does have plenty of that kind of stuff and some profanity. Older parts don’t approve, but the kids in me say they have heard much much worse.

Michael Crichton has made complicated scientific concepts more accessible and helped me remember that I am a part of the natural world. I truly appreciate and miss him.

Reading Experiment

Many times I read something and cannot remember it clearly probably because of being divided up into parts and stressed out, so I thought, “What if I tried letting all my parts read different versions of a story according to their ages?

We read A Midsummer’s Night Dream by William Shakespeare or whoever wrote it. It doesn’t matter to us. For the parts under the age of eight I read Starting with Shakespeare: Successfully Introducing Shakespeare to Children by Pauline Nelson and Todd Daubert. The little ones like being read to aloud. Kids between eight and sixteen read Tales From Shakespeare by Charles and Mary Lamb. Parts over the age of sixteen read the original play in Old English text.

Everyone loved the play and didn’t feel that they were being left out, but I don’t think I understand the literary devices anymore than usual. I can easily retell the story though. Maybe we should watch the movie too.

The House of Silk by Anthony Horowitz Spoilers

Since I have never read any of Anthony Horwitz’s writing I didn’t know what to expect of his rendition of a Sherlock Holmes detective story. I thought it was pretty good. The game is still afoot.

In this story Holmes and Watson investigate a robbery and end up uncovering a pedophile ring. A minister runs the ring by selling abandoned street children in London to influential wealthy men.

I am glad this book has come out around the time what happened at Penn State is being exposed. It keeps this evil depraved practice in the public eye.

The mother of a son.

Somehow this is what I created and yet at fifty still don’t understand. No clue how this happened. How can I give something I never had?

My adult son has moved back in with us. He has allergies and the other night I told him I was going to get herbal medicine for him. Yesterday I stayed inside all day so I didn’t get it. He actually has an attitude. He still expects care from his mother. He is an adult. Selfish brat. I never expected anything as a child.

There must have been something in my DNA to allow me to mother.

This is what depression is like.

How I Merge continued…Triggers

The last few days I felt as if I were dying. In fact, convinced. Husband tried to tell me it wasn’t happening. Kidparts were telling their emotional stories and it was devastating. These emotional memories help me to understand the extreme and terrible level of torture that caused the splitting off of my consciousness. It is still hard to handle now when I’m supposed to be old enough to make sense of the memories. There is no way I could survive emotionally as a toddler with these/those feelings. Also the flashbacks I have make more sense to me now though they are no easier to feel.

I am guessing that remembering suffering is a prelude to coming together into one consciousness, but I don’t know.

On the other side of the memories I feel the need to clean my bedroom and am no longer angry at my siblings for now or the past because now I understand we did the best we could in horrible circumstances. We are lucky we’re alive and sane and still speaking to one another.

I’m looking rough today. I need a haircut or a hair style. That’s the least of my worries right now, I think. Ha! Luckily, I have therapy and then I’m going to buy some herbs for allergies, incense, soup ingredients, and search for old inexpensive books.

Sexual Abuse at Penn State

I am so angry because the cover up there reminds me of the way sexual abuse is kept secret in families. Some people know what’s going on but they keep silent in order to protect the reputation of the family. At Penn State they wanted to protect that football program because of all the money it brought in and they felt loyalty to one another. I also wonder about the state of Pennsylvania. Did certain people stay silent in order to keep collecting tax revenue? Well now the secrets are having light shined on them and the roaches are running and hiding.

Fulani Chant from Sweet Honey in the Rock

I saw Sweet Honey a few weeks ago. When they performed Fulani Chant written by Aisha Kahlil, the song did sound like birds in the morning. Each woman had a different part/bird to sing. It left the audience speechless.
